Abstract: Across Indonesia and the ASEAN region as a whole, ambitions for the sustainable development progress that can be achieved in the Sustainable Development GoalS (SDG) era are high. Realising these ambitions will require mobilising the right scale and mix of financing. This paper forms part of a project to assess the financing challenges, opportunities, and the policies and institutional frameworks that governments can use In implementing the SDGs.

3). Tapping the Potential of Zakat and Other Forms of Islamic Finance to Achieve SDGs in Indonesia

Abstract: Between US$3 trillion and $4.5 trillion is needed to achieve the SDGs, while current investment is around $1.4 trillion, creating a financing shortfall of about $2.5 trillion. Governments alone cannot be responsible for domestic financing, leaving ample opportunity for increased and more effective philanthropic giving and social finance. The presentation explores the potential for Islamic finance to contribute in achieving the SDGs in Indonesia.

3). Unlocking SME Finance in Asia: the Case of Indonesia

Abstract: Credit guarantees play an important role in the lending decision to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia, particularly credit decisions by formal microfinance institutions. These institutions charge comparatively lower interest rates compared to non-formal microfinance institutions. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of guarantees and other factors such as gender on credit decisions by formal microfinance institution to SMEs using data from the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) 2007.
