Indonesia’s population is getting older as the number of elderly people increases. By the second demographic bonus era improving the quality of human resources is necessary. Currently many elderly people have low socioeconomic status and an insecure future. The existing Law Number 13 Year 1998 on Welfare of the Elderly (Kesejahteraan Lanjut Usia) is outdated and needs to be improved in line with changing conditions and the ageing paradigm. Therefore, a new draft bill (RUU) on the welfare of the elderly needs to be supported to have an improved outcome for future generations.
